So I give in... I guess I am growing a pumpkin...

I had absolutely no intention of growing pumpkins. In the beginning I was I pulling out my little pumpkin volunteers... however as the weather grew warmer and as they started growing bigger faster I started transplanting them out. The transplanted volunteers did not do well and most caught some sort of disease (powdery mildew I think).

However I let one go... I let it grow... and now it is trying to take over my back yard :)

So I guess I am growing a pumpkin....

Ok maybe I am growing two pumpkins...

I do have to draw the line somewhere though... yes my husband helped draw the line a little bit (he does like his lawn). So I picked the one vine that is not on the lawn and is staying for the most part on the paths between my raised beds and whenever I get a few minutes I go out and trim back the other vines.

Really pumpkins are kind of cool. I mean check this out.....

The vines themselves are forming their own roots!! Like tomatoes or raspberries...  Am I the only one that finds that very cool?

Since everything begins and ends with soil I thought this was very cool because the plant is not pulling all the nutrients from the soil in my garden bed (which I amend quite a bit for my EDIBLE crops) but also from the lawn or the decaying mulch between the raised beds.

I think next year I may mulch a pumpkin in a strategic location so I can intentionally grow a pumpkin.

On a different note.... its flowers are beautiful. I wonder if you can fry them like zuchinni flowers?
