So Excited....

Last fall on blind faith I purchased three artic kiwi/ Hardy Kiwi vines for my garden. My son loves kiwis I love kiwis... so when I found out that there was a variety of kiwi that will grown in Zone 6 I had to give it a try.

The kiwis that grow on these vines are not normal kiwis. First they are the size of a big grape and you eat the kiwi whole... no cutting off fuzzy skin. These vines take any where from 4-7 years to produce edible fruit (I know.. quite a commitment for something I've never tried).

I was beyond excited when I found them in our local grocery store today (it was Wegmans for anyone who wants to try them for themselves).

Seriously these are delicious... Its abit surreal biting into something that clearly looks like a grape and having it taste like a kiwi.It also struck me... these are great for his lunch box... I regularly send kiwis in my son's lunchbox b/c he loves them that much. I don't know that regular kiwis cut up hold all that well in his lunch box but he seems to eat them none the less. I can send these in his lunch box without the fuss or mess. Oh well lets see if he still is asking me to give him lunch from home in 4 years.

They look delish! Fruit takes a long time, but the sooner you plant, the sooner everything will start yielding. Why not pick up some pear and cherry trees too? :) Agway has the best locally, I've found, bigger and healthier then bare root specimens via the mail....

I have actually been contemplating getting a plum tree. Trying to learn everything they need for spraying and such. I may have to pick your brain about it. But didn't even have Agway on my radar... will definitely check them out
