So for those who've actually been reading my blog posts for the last few years know that I am a Project lifer... what does that mean? Well unless you have been hiding under a rock you probably know that I scrapbook. Project life is a different approach to scrapbooking. I've talked about it here and here. I'll leave it at that for now b/c I know at least in that first post I rambled on forever about it.
So I've finished three full years of doing project life and for year four I'm changing it up a bit:
1. I am going ALL digital- this is probably the biggest change. Let me first say I love printing out individual pictures I love putting them in the page protectors and writing out the cards and all... the PAPER way. But really I was doing quite a bit of editing to the pictures in photoshop. I'd then have to print them out and then more often than not I'd be adding more to my pages after I did them. I love doing this but ended up doing project life in 3 month increments (which is when I'd sit down and print out the picts and inevitably I'd forget a few picts.) My album was never done.
I've also gone with all digital b/c I just couldn't justify buying another paper project life kit. I always have material left over at the end of the year, I never use all the cards. With digital kits:
1) they are cheaper... and I never have the pieces of the kit leftover (I have files which I can use as often as I'd like).
2)I can buy more than one kit.... this year I had this problem... couldn't decide... if I get two kits on sale I am still not paying more than the price of one paper kit.
3)The digital scrapbooking community is much more generous with their products... they often give away freebie kits, $1 kits or really good sales, etc.etc. its easy to digitally scrapbook on a ridiculously small budget. I'll be honest I don't have the spending money I once did when I worked full time.
4)Smaller carbon footprint- ok so scrapbooking really is not easy on the environment in any way shape or form... people who are 100% into minimizing their carbon foot print probably don't scrapbook. I see it just as a added bonus that this is a little easier on the environment.
While I'm at it I'm going to share two digital Project Lifers whose digital work I really like:
Lindsay Teague Moreno love love love her style...
Kim Kalil- she has some cute freebies and weekly free templates which I have used on more than one occasion.
2. Each week I will only do a 1 page spread instead of a 2 page spread - this is actually something I started doing last year. My brother was making fun of the fact that I literally would have a room full of albums if I kept up with this 7 pictures a week concept for the rest of my life. I still have an average 7 pictures a week but I have embraced the 3" x4" sized photo and embraced photo collages so I am able to get things down to a 1 page spread.
3. Focus more on my kids albums - So I've been keeping up with my kids albums but I have to say aside from birthdays, school class pictures and select class projects I am not consistently putting things into their album. For example I am just getting around to putting their class pictures from last year in their album and my daughter can't remember the names of some of the kids in her class. I am hoping that by freeing up mental energy on my project life album I can focus on a few more things for them... something like this layout by Ali Edwards.
I am posting my project life layouts on google+, so if you'd like to check them out you can find me there.
